Best Hotels Near Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills Game

A Buffalo Bills trip is different in 2026.

This is the inaugural season at the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, which officially opened in June and hosted its first regular-season game on September 17. The 60,108-seat, open-air stadium has a natural-grass field, covered portions of the seating bowl and 360-degree concourses.

And if you’re coming from out of town, there’s an important thing to understand before booking a hotel:

Highmark Stadium is not in downtown Buffalo.

You can either stay closer to Orchard Park and simplify game day, or stay downtown and turn the trip into a bigger Buffalo weekend. Both can work, but they’re very different experiences.

Here are the hotels we’d consider first.

Hampton Inn Buffalo-Hamburg: Best for Staying Close to Highmark Stadium

For a straightforward football weekend, Hampton Inn Buffalo-Hamburg is one of the first places we’d check.

The hotel is off I-90 in Hamburg, and Hilton estimates Highmark Stadium is about a 10-minute drive away under normal conditions. It also includes free hot breakfast and free parking.

That combination is hard to overlook for a game-focused trip.

You’re not paying for downtown amenities you may barely use, you’re positioned south of Buffalo closer to Orchard Park, and breakfast is handled before you start the tailgating day.

Just don’t interpret the normal 10-minute drive as a game-day estimate. Traffic patterns around the stadium change dramatically on Bills Sundays.

Best for: Families, road-trippers and visitors prioritizing game-day proximity.

Staybridge Suites Buffalo: Best for Groups and Longer Stays

Staybridge Suites in West Seneca is another strong option for a Bills weekend.

The hotel specifically markets its proximity to Highmark Stadium, which it lists 6.1 miles away. Every suite has a full kitchen, and the property includes complimentary breakfast, an indoor saltwater pool and complimentary laundry facilities.

For a group coming in Friday and leaving Monday, this setup makes a lot of sense.

You have extra space, you can stock the kitchen and you’re much closer to Orchard Park than you’d be at most downtown Buffalo hotels.

Best for: Groups, families and multi-night football trips.

Buffalo Marriott at LECOM Harborcenter: Best Downtown Football Weekend

If we’d rather make the trip about Buffalo as well as the Bills, we’d switch strategies and stay downtown.

Buffalo Marriott at LECOM Harborcenter sits in the Canalside entertainment district, attached to KeyBank Center and within walking distance of the waterfront and Erie Canal area.

That’s obviously nowhere near as convenient for simply walking out of your hotel and heading into a tailgate.

But Friday and Saturday night become much more interesting.

You can explore downtown and the waterfront, then treat Sunday as the dedicated football day.

There’s another reason this strategy has become more appealing in 2026: public game-day transportation to Orchard Park.

Best for: Couples and first-time Buffalo visitors who want more than football.

The Mosey Buffalo Williamsville: Best for Combining Football With a Longer Western New York Trip

The Mosey is in Williamsville rather than Orchard Park or downtown Buffalo.

That makes it less convenient for the stadium, but potentially useful for a longer Western New York itinerary.

The hotel sits along Main Street near village shops and restaurants, about four miles from Buffalo Niagara International Airport and roughly 25 minutes from Niagara Falls under normal conditions. It also has an indoor pool, spa and on-site restaurant.

We’d consider this if the Bills game is part of a three- or four-night trip that also includes Niagara Falls.

If football is the entire reason you’re coming, we’d rather stay south of Buffalo closer to Orchard Park.

Best for: Couples and travelers combining the Bills with Niagara Falls.

Should You Stay Near Highmark Stadium or Downtown Buffalo?

For a pure football trip, we’d stay closer to Orchard Park.

Bills game days aren’t a quick in-and-out stadium experience. Tailgating is a huge part of the culture, and staying closer makes it easier to commit most of the day to football.

But downtown has become a more practical option because NFTA operates its Game Day Express to Highmark Stadium.

One of the express pickup points is the Metropolitan Transportation Center in downtown Buffalo. The current fare is $5 each way, and the service drops passengers at the Highmark Stadium Transit Center near Abbott Road and Southwestern Boulevard.

Schedules are published during the week before each home game.

That means a downtown hotel no longer automatically requires renting a car and dealing with stadium parking.

How Does the Highmark Stadium Game Day Express Work?

This is one of the most useful things for visiting fans to know in 2026.

NFTA’s Game Day Express currently serves six pickup locations: Metropolitan Transportation Center, Niagara Falls Transportation Center, Thruway Plaza Transit Center, University Station, Utica Rail Station and Eastern Hills Mall.

The fare is $5 per person each way.

NFTA recommends arriving 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled departure because capacity is limited and demand can be high. After the game, the first return buses generally leave the stadium about 30 minutes after the final whistle.

For visitors staying downtown, we’d seriously consider this instead of driving.

What Should You Know About Parking at Highmark Stadium?

Plan it before game day.

All Highmark Stadium-controlled parking lots require an advance-purchase parking pass. The Bills do not sell ordinary parking in those lots for cash or credit card when you arrive.

The stadium lots open four hours before kickoff and close two hours after the game.

Abbott Road also closes to vehicle traffic several hours before kickoff, which is another reason we’d avoid assuming you can simply drive toward the stadium at the last minute.

Additional neighborhood parking is available around Orchard Park, including the former ECC South Campus.

If tailgating is a major part of your plan, parking can absolutely be worth it.

Just buy the pass and understand the traffic plan before you arrive.

How Early Should You Get to a Bills Game?

Early enough that tailgating is part of the trip.

For current Bills home games, stadium parking lots open four hours before kickoff, security gates open three hours before kickoff and ticket entry begins two hours before kickoff.

We wouldn’t aim to arrive when the gates open.

We’d aim to already be in Orchard Park.

The Bills tailgate experience is one of the main reasons to make this NFL trip in the first place. Give yourself time to walk around, see the new stadium from outside and experience the atmosphere before heading through security.

What’s Different About Highmark Stadium in 2026?

Almost everything.

The new stadium officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 23, 2026, and the Bills played their first regular-season game there against Detroit on September 17.

It’s a 60,108-seat football-first stadium with a natural-grass field. The design includes a canopy providing coverage over portions of the seating bowl, 360-degree concourses and modern food, beverage and technology systems.

That gives travel content around Highmark Stadium an unusual advantage right now: even experienced Bills fans are learning a completely new building, parking setup and transportation routine.

Which Upcoming Bills Games Are Best for a Football Trip?

There’s an immediate option.

Buffalo hosts New England this Sunday, October 4, at 1 p.m.

After two road games, the Bills return to Orchard Park for Baltimore on November 1. Later home dates include Miami on November 22, Kansas City on November 27, Chicago on December 20 and the Jets in the final week of the regular season.

The Kansas City game stands out as a particularly attractive destination weekend, while Chicago in December gives you the possibility of the cold-weather Buffalo football experience many visiting fans are hoping for.

For any of those games, we’d book the hotel as soon as the trip is confirmed.

Should You Add Niagara Falls to a Bills Weekend?

If you’ve never been, yes.

Niagara Falls is close enough to turn a Bills trip into a much more substantial Western New York vacation.

Our preferred itinerary would be arriving Friday, visiting Niagara Falls Saturday and devoting Sunday entirely to football.

Trying to squeeze Niagara Falls into game day itself defeats the purpose.

The Bills experience deserves the full day, especially now that visiting fans are seeing the new Highmark Stadium for the first time.

For the easiest football-focused trip, we’d look first at Hampton Inn Buffalo-Hamburg or Staybridge Suites Buffalo.

Both put you closer to Orchard Park than downtown while giving you practical amenities for a weekend built around the game.

If you want Buffalo itself to be a major part of the trip, Buffalo Marriott at LECOM Harborcenter is the more interesting strategy. Stay downtown, enjoy the waterfront and consider using NFTA’s Game Day Express to reach the stadium.

And if you’re turning the trip into a broader Western New York vacation, The Mosey Buffalo Williamsville can make sense as a base for combining Buffalo, Niagara Falls and football.

The biggest thing we’d remember is that a Bills weekend isn’t simply a three-hour NFL game.

Arrive early.

Tailgate.

Give Orchard Park the day.
