Best Hotels Near Fenway Park in Boston

Fenway Park is one of those places where we'd rather build the hotel choice around the neighborhood than commute in for the game.

Stay in Fenway or Kenmore Square and you're not just close to the ballpark. You're also near Boston University, the Museum of Fine Arts, Newbury Street, MGM Music Hall and public transportation that makes the rest of Boston easy to reach.

That makes the area especially good for a two- or three-night trip: go to the game without worrying about parking, then spend the rest of the weekend exploring Boston.

Here are the hotels we'd consider first.

Hotel Commonwealth: Best Overall Hotel Near Fenway Park

Hotel Commonwealth is our first choice for travelers who want both Fenway Park convenience and a polished Boston hotel experience.

The hotel sits in Kenmore Square at 500 Commonwealth Avenue, about 0.2 miles from Fenway Park. Boston University is roughly 0.3 miles away, while Newbury Street, the Museum of Fine Arts and MGM Music Hall are also within walking distance.

It's also the official hotel partner of the Boston Red Sox and offers Fenway-facing rooms along with baseball-themed suites containing memorabilia and ballpark-inspired details.

Kenmore station is nearby, which makes this location useful even when you're not heading to the stadium.

Best for: First-time Boston visitors, couples and baseball-focused weekends.

The Verb Hotel: Best for a Fun Fenway Weekend

The Verb Hotel is one of the most distinctive options near the ballpark.

Located at 1271 Boylston Street, the hotel is next to Fenway Park and leans heavily into Boston's music history. Guestrooms include record players, while the property has a large vinyl library and rock-and-roll memorabilia throughout the hotel.

There's even a collection of ten custom stationary trailers called Backstage tucked between the hotel and Fenway Park.

This isn't the hotel we'd choose for a quiet, traditional Boston stay.

It is one we'd choose for a couples trip, friends weekend or concert where we want the hotel to feel like part of the experience.

Best for: Couples, groups, music fans and travelers looking for something different.

Residence Inn Boston Back Bay/Fenway: Best for Families

Residence Inn Boston Back Bay/Fenway is particularly compelling when you're staying more than a night or two.

The all-suite hotel at 125 Brookline Avenue is steps from Fenway Park and provides convenient access to Boston University, Northeastern University, Longwood Medical Center, House of Blues and MGM Music Hall.

Suites include kitchens, and the hotel serves complimentary breakfast. It also has an indoor/outdoor rooftop terrace overlooking Fenway Park and the Boston skyline.

Those amenities make a difference when you're traveling with kids or turning a baseball game into a longer Boston vacation.

Best for: Families, extended stays and travelers who want extra space.

Hotel Commonwealth: Best for Kenmore Square and Transit

Hotel Commonwealth deserves another mention specifically because of its transportation advantages.

Kenmore Square station provides MBTA access to the rest of Boston, and the hotel lists direct access to the station among its transportation options.

That gives you an appealing compromise.

You're close enough to walk to Fenway Park in minutes, but you aren't choosing a hotel that's useful only for baseball.

Boston Public Garden, Faneuil Hall, Cambridge and the New England Aquarium can all become part of the same trip without needing a car.

Best for: Travelers who want Fenway plus broader Boston sightseeing.

Should You Stay Near Fenway Park or Downtown Boston?

If the Red Sox game is a major reason for the trip, we'd stay near Fenway.

The neighborhood gives you much more than stadium convenience.

Hotel Commonwealth lists Newbury Street about half a mile away, Hynes Convention Center 0.7 miles away and the Museum of Fine Arts 0.9 miles away. Cambridge and MIT are about 1.4 miles from the hotel.

That means you don't sacrifice the Boston experience simply because you're prioritizing baseball.

Downtown makes more sense when Fenway is a small part of a first-time Boston itinerary centered on the Freedom Trail, waterfront and historic attractions.

For a baseball weekend, though, we'd rather walk home after the game.

Do You Need a Car for a Fenway Park Weekend?

No.

In fact, we'd generally avoid renting one if you're flying into Boston and spending the weekend around Fenway and central Boston.

Hotels in the neighborhood put restaurants, entertainment and the stadium within walking distance, while Kenmore and Fenway stations connect you to the MBTA network.

Residence Inn also lists Lansdowne station and Amtrak's Back Bay station among nearby transportation options.

Unless your itinerary extends well outside Boston, a car can add parking costs without adding much convenience.

How Far Is Boston Logan Airport From Fenway Park?

Boston Logan International Airport is relatively close geographically, although actual travel time depends heavily on traffic.

Residence Inn Boston Back Bay/Fenway lists Logan 5.3 miles from the hotel.

For a short baseball weekend, our preference would be to get from Logan to the hotel and then rely primarily on walking and public transportation.

Once you're settled into Fenway or Kenmore Square, you shouldn't need to keep crossing the city by car.

What Else Can You Do Near Fenway Park?

This is one of the strongest arguments for staying nearby.

Boston University sits just west of Kenmore Square. Newbury Street and Back Bay are nearby, while the Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are also within walking distance of the Fenway area.

Music fans have even more reason to stay close. MGM Music Hall at Fenway and House of Blues are both steps from Hotel Commonwealth.

Residence Inn also specifically highlights both venues among its nearby attractions.

That gives the neighborhood strong year-round travel appeal even when the Red Sox aren't playing.

When Should You Book a Hotel Near Fenway Park?

For summer weekend games, Yankees series, concerts and potential playoff dates, we'd book as soon as plans are reasonably firm.

Those are exactly the types of weekends when we'd want a refundable hotel reservation secured early.

For the best combination of location, Boston atmosphere and Fenway access, Hotel Commonwealth is our first choice.

If you want something more playful and memorable, The Verb Hotel is difficult to duplicate.

Families and longer-stay visitors should look especially hard at Residence Inn Boston Back Bay/Fenway, where suites, kitchens, complimentary breakfast and rooftop Fenway views make a multi-night stay easier.

The larger point is that Fenway isn't a stadium where you need to sacrifice the rest of your vacation to stay nearby.

Choose the right hotel and you can walk to the game, explore Back Bay, visit museums, ride the T across Boston and still finish the night a few minutes from your room.
